Brick chimney on a Boise-area home

Chimney Sweep Boise

A chimney sweep and a chimney cleaning are the same visit in Boise: we clean your wood-burning fireplace or wood stove.

Creosote, soot, and loose debris collect in the flue, the firebox, and on the smoke shelf.

Sweep and cleaning are one appointment. Book a sweep, tell us whether it is a fireplace or a wood stove, and we clean it.

Wood smoke leaves creosote on the flue as it cools. A light layer brushes off. A heavier layer hardens and narrows the opening the smoke uses. Soot drops into the firebox and sits on the smoke shelf with ash and other debris. Creosote removal is the core of the sweep. We take out the buildup we can reach in those three places.

A wood fireplace and a wood stove are the same kind of sweep. Tell us which one you have so we bring brushes that fit. If a damper sits in the throat of a fireplace, we work past it and leave it seated the way we found it, unless it is damaged.

A sweep is the cleaning. It does not include a condition report or replacement parts. If you want the cap, crown, liner, damper, flashing, and visible masonry looked at and described, book a chimney inspection. If a part is already cracked, loose, or leaking, book chimney repair. A gas fireplace, gas logs, a pilot, or an ignition problem belongs on gas fireplace service. We do not run a wood-flue sweep on a gas set and treat that as the whole job.

Signs it is time

Smoke that comes into the room instead of up the flue is one reason to call. A sharper smell after a fire is another. Soot on the firebox opening, or a flue that has burned through a season with no cleaning, is enough. Weak draft and wood that is slow to catch point the same way. If the fireplace or stove sat unused and you are about to light it again, book the sweep first.

If you are not sure a sweep is the right first step, say so in the note. A sweep removes buildup. An inspection reports condition. We will quote the one that matches what you described.

How the visit goes

  1. We look at the fireplace and chimney before any cleaning starts. From the room we see the firebox, the smoke shelf, and the damper if there is one. When we can get to the top, we look down the flue as well. That look tells us what we are cleaning.

  2. We protect the work area next. Soot travels. The hearth, the floor in front of the opening, and furniture close to the fireplace are covered before a brush goes in.

  3. We do the booked service. For a chimney sweep, that is creosote, soot, and debris out of the flue, the firebox, and the smoke shelf. A wood stove is cleaned on that same type of visit.

  4. We tell you what was found before we pack up. You should hear whether the flue cleaned to a clear surface, and whether we saw something cleaning does not fix. A missing cap, a cracked crown, a damper that will not close, or a liner with a gap gets named. You can add chimney repair or a chimney inspection after that. We do not start that extra work unless you have accepted a quote for it.
